Lamp Lighting Ceremony– 2023

“Light is a prettily universal symbol of truth, knowledge, and understanding, it acts as a guide keeping us from stumbling in the dark”.

The Lamp Lighting Ceremony, an oath taking ceremony by the fresher’s who are entering the Nursing Profession, is being organized regularly every year. This year the Lamp Lighting Ceremony of our 16th batch of B.Sc. (N) I year students held 12th of April 2023 at Auditorium, SMVNC.

The Procession started at 11 am by the B.Sc.(N) I year students. This special occasion was inaugurated and graced by the Chief Guest DR. A. Felicia Chitra, Principal, MTPG & RIHS. The Program started with invocation by our III yr B.Sc. (N) Students followed, by DR. Prof. G. Muthamilselvi, Principal, SMVNC welcomed the gathering. The august dignitaries on the dais lighted the lamp and inaugurated the ceremony. DR. D. Rajagovindan, Director, SMVMCH delivered the presidential address

As a sign of honour and respect to the Pioneer of nursing profession, the dignitaries garlanded the portrait of Florence Nightingale, The lady with the lamp. The dignitaries DR. Felicia Chitra, Principal MTPG, DR. Prof. G.Muthamilselvi, Principal SMVNC, DR. S. Narmatha, Vice Principal,

SMVNC, Mrs. Greetagunaseelan, Nursing Superintendent, SMVMCH, and Mrs. P. Nathiya, Assistant professor, SMVNC along with the faculty lit the lamps of 99 novice nursing students which symbolizes wisdom, knowledge and compassion, by recitation of oath, pledging themselves to uphold the duties as a professional Nurse, administered by DR. S. Narmatha, Vice-principal, SMVNC. A melodious and soothing song “Showers of Blessings” dedicated to Florence Nightingale was Sung by I year B.Sc.(N) Students added solemnity for the program.

The chief guest, DR. Felicia Chitra, in her address to the gathering applauded the students for choosing the nursing profession. She gave a call to the students to be committed, have a right attitude and be disciplined as a student. She said that these budding nurses are a great asset to the needy patients.

DR. R. Sridevi, Professor, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, highlighted the significance of the day. Mrs. L. Saraswathi, HOD, Dept. of CHN, SMVNC, proposed the vote of thanks.

The Programme was compered by Mrs. V. Santhiya, Assistant professor, SMVNC, Mrs. Yamunambigai, Assistant professor, SMVNC. The ceremony came to an end at 1 pm with the national anthem followed by high tea.
