Student Nurses' Association (SNA)

Features of SNA

The Student Nurses’ Association, popularly known as, is a nation-wide organization of nursing students. It was established in 1929 at the time of annual conference of the TNAI in Madras. Ms. L.N. Jean, the Nursing Superintendent of General Hospital, Madras was instrumental in forming this association.
The main purpose of forming the association by TNAI (Trained Nurses Association of India) was to provide vanities to the nursing students to facilitate their all-round development and accredit them to join TNAI as qualified nurses. The purpose has been achieved in a span of 75 years. It is remarkable achievement that the growth of SNA units has been persistent ever since its inception.
SNA is a major source of enrolment of TNAI Life membership.
A wide variety of activities are encouraged at all levels for the SNA members, keeping in view aims and objectives of the association. The diversity of activities are derived from the professional, social, cultural and recreational spheres to strengthen curricular and extracurricular activities of the student nurses.

AIMS

The aim of the SNA is to provide programs representative of fundamental and current professional interest concerns to nursing students. Membership in SNA aids in the development of the whole person, including the professional role.

  • To promote collaborative relationships with various health organizations.
  • To bring out the talents and confidence of the students for the upliftment of self and society.

Farwell day - 2026

 The Student Nurses Association celebrated a Farwell day celebration on 14.02.26 (2pm-6pm) at Auditorium. The programme was organized by SNA President Dr.Prof. Muthamilselvi, Principal SMVNC and SNA advisor, DR.P.Manimegalai, Associate Professor, SMVNC. The programme started with lightening Lamp by dignitaries followed by welcome dance, distribution of gifts by Principal Madam, vice principal and faculties. The feedback from the students and group photos were taken by the students and ended with vote of thanks by Miss. Harini Bsc Nursing III Year. The programme ended with National Antham.

Fresher’s day - 2026

The Student Nurses Association and Student’s Council celebrated a fresher’s day celebration on 14.02.26 (09 am to1pm) at Auditorium. The programme was organized by SNA President Dr.Prof. Muthamilselvi, Principal SMVNC and SNA advisor, DR. P.Manimegalai, Associate Professor, SMVNC. The programme started with lightening Lamp by dignitaries followed by welcome dance, distribution of gifts by Principal Madam, vice principal and students of BSc Nursing II Year (3 Semester) and with feedback from the fresher’s students.  The vote of thanks by Ms.Gajalakshmi B.Sc.,(N) IIYr. The programme ended with National Anthem.

Intercollege competitions- 2026

The Students Nurses’ Association (SNA) and the Students’ Council of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Nursing College (SMVNC) participated in the intercollegiate competitions organized as part of the Pongal Celebration held on 14 January 2026 at Mailam College of Nursing, Villupuram. The students of SMVNC enthusiastically participated in various literary competitions, including English Elocution, Tamil Elocution, English Essay Writing, and Tamil Essay Writing. Their active participation provided an excellent platform to enhance their communication skills, strengthen their competitive spirit, and promote both academic and co-curricular excellence.The students demonstrated exceptional talent and outstanding performance, securing prizes in all the events and bringing laurels to the institution. Their remarkable achievement reflects the commitment of the college towards fostering holistic student development and encouraging excellence in extracurricular activities.

International Nurses Day - 2026

The Students’ Council of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Nursing College (SMVNC) celebrated International Nurses Day 2026 on 12 May 2026 with great enthusiasm and pride. The programme was organized under the guidance of SNA President, Prof. Dr. G. Muthamilselvi. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Dr. P. Manimegalai, Associate Professor, SMVNC.The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. J. Jasnine, Principal, Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (IGMC&RI), Puducherry, delivered the keynote address highlighting the theme of International Nurses Day 2026. The Guest of Honour, Mr. S. Rajkumar, Joint Registrar, graced the occasion with his presence.. As part of the celebration, various literary events were conducted for the students. The winners were felicitated with prizes in recognition of their outstanding performances. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by S. Keerthana, SNA Treasurer, B.Sc. Nursing III Year.

Pongal celebration - 2026

The Student Nurses Association and Students’ council Celebrated Pongal celebration on 14.01.2026 at playground. Under the guidance of SNA President Prof. DR. G. Muthamilselvi and SNA Advisor DR.P.Manimegalai organized the programme. Many events were conducted for the students and faculties on that day.

State SNA ELECTION - 2026

Students’ Nurses Association (SMVNC–SNA) is proud to announce that Ms. Mujakiya Ith, B.Sc. Nursing II Year, has been elected as the State SNA Treasurer in the Puducherry State Students’ Nurses Association Election. This achievement is a matter of great pride for the institution and reflects the leadership potential and active participation of our students in professional nursing organizations.

 

31 SNA Conference- 2025

The Student Nurses’ Association of India (SNAI) and the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI) jointly conducted intercollege competition for sports and culturals as a part of 31st Biennial Conference held on (18.11.25 to 22.11.25) at Pune, Maharashtra. All Nursing colleges from India, participated in the various events, from Sri Manakula Vinayagar Nursing College actively participated in the conference, out of many colleges, SMVNC have selected for nationals to participate in the competitions.

Christmas programme- 2025

The Student Nurses Association and Student’s Council celebrated a Christmas programme on 23.12.25 at auditorium. The programme was organized by SNA President Dr. Prof. Muthamilselvi, Principal SMVNC and SNA advisor, DR.P. Manimegalai, Associate Professor, SMVNC. The programme started with carol songs. cake, Santa claus distributed cholates to the students and faculties and end with cake cutting. The students were actively participated and celebrated the programme and 450 students are participated and enjoyed the programme.

Independence Day- 2025

The management and cultural club celebrated Independence Day on 15.8.2025. our respected chairman cum Managing Director Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, Treasurer Er. D. Rajarajan, Dr. R.N.Kagne, Director, SMVMCH, Dr. M.Pragash, Medical Superintendent, SMVMCH, Dhachanamoorthy Register SMVMCH, DR.muthamilselvi ,principal ,SMVNC. DR.Narmatha, Vice Principal SMVNC. The flag was hosted by chairman and end with National Anthem.

Inter College Sports Competition- 2025

The Inter College Sports Competition was held on 27th September 2025 at the SMVNC, Volleyball Court. Two event were conducted like volley ball and throw ball. From Puducherry various institutions are participated enthusiastically in the events, those colleges are

The event was inaugurated at 10.30 am by Principal, prof, DR. G. Muthamilselvi, from SMVNC and DR. Kavitha, State SNA Advisor, Puducherry. Various colleges are defeated In volley ball for Boys and final result were announced

KPV Intercollege meet - 2025

The karpaga Vinayaga College of Nursing from SNA unit Conducted vibreeze 6.0, annual intercollege meet on 28.6.25and 29.6.25 with Cultural and sports meet. The students from SMVNC from SNA unit Participated two days competition in sports (volley ball) on 28.6.25 and cultural on 29.6.25 (group dance and solo dance). At the end of the programme students received participation certificate.

International Nurses day - 2025

The Students Nurses Association of SMVNC celebrated International Nurses day 2025 on 21.05.2024 at MVIT Auditorium. Under the guidance of  Prof. DR.G.Muthamilselvi. The Programme started at 9.30am. Our B.Sc. (N) III semester students began the event with the prayer song and welcome dance by Bsc (N) II semester. The gatherings were welcomed by DR.P.Manimegalai, Associate Professor,SMVNC. The unfolding theme was address by Prof.DR.G. Muthamilselvi, Principal, SMVNC. Following the event, the Chief Guest address was given by Dr.kagna, Director, SMVMCH,Puducherry, Then various cultural events were carried out by the B.Sc. (N) III semester and I semester students. A vote of thanks was given by Mr.kithik Ram Editorial Committee, BSc (N) IV year. The event was successfully ended with the National anthem.

Onam Celebration - 2025

The Student Nurses Association and Students council celebrated Onam on 03.09.2025 in playground. Under the guidance of SNA President Prof. DR. G. Muthamilselvi, the Programme was started. The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing prosperity and the start of a joyful occasion. This was followed by a brief speech highlighting the significance of Onam, which commemorates the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali and the cultural richness of the state of Kerala.

Pongal Celebration - 2025

The Student Nurses Association and Students’ council Celebrated Pongal celebration on 11.01.2025. Under the guidance of SNA President Prof. DR. G. Muthamilselvi, the programme was organized. Many events were conducted for the students and faculties on that day.

Scholarship Programme- 2025

The Student Nurses’ Association (SNA), functioning under the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), provides scholarships to deserving nursing students across India to encourage academic excellence, leadership, and professional development. It is a matter of great pride that Mis.Syed Ali Farthima has been selected for the prestigious SNA Scholarship for the academic year (2024-2025).

The programme was conducted at MTPG & RIHS, Puducherry, the following events were under taken by the college are quiz competition. Nearly 8 college all around Puducherry, were participated. For a group 3 students and totally 24 students are participated in a programme.

Teachers’ Day - 2025

The Student Council of SMVNC celebrated Teachers’ Day with great enthusiasm and reverence on 8th September 2025, honoring the invaluable contributions of teachers in shaping the future of students and the Nation. The event was meticulously organized under the leadership of SC President Dr. Prof. Muthamilselvi, Principal of SMVNC, and SNA Advisor Dr. P. Manimegalai, Associate Professor, SMVNC. Their guidance ensured the smooth and successful execution of the programme. The highlight of the celebration was the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Prof. Joseph Selvin, Dean. Food and Science Technology, Pondicherry University, Puducherry. His presence added grace and prestige to the event.

Women’s Day - 2025

The Students Nurses Association and Students council of SMVNC celebrated Women’s Day 2025 on 7.3.2025. Under the guidance of SNA President Prof. DR. G. Muthamilselvi. The Chief Guest addressed by prof. DR. Sujatha, Additional vice principal, PIMS, Puducherry and prof.Dr.Sasi,Viceprincipal, VCON,Puducherry, Guest of Hourner. A vote of thanks proposed by DR. P. Manimegalai, SNA Advisor.

Ayutha Pooja - 2024

The SNA and Student council of SMVNC celebrated Ayutha Pooja on 10/10/2024. Under the guidance of SNA President Prof. DR. G. Muthamilselvi, the Chief Guest Shri.M.Dhanasekaran, Chairman cum Managing director SMVET, gracious the occasion. Many events was conducted for the students and faculty on that day.

Case Presentation - 2024

The Students Nurses Association and Student council conducted an intercollege competition on case presentation with the topic of Respectful Maternity Care on 18th July 2024 by Sri Manakula Vinayagar Nursing College at SMVNC seminar hall, organized by Prof.Dr.Muthamilselvi SNA President and Dr.P.Manimegalai SNA Advisor, SMVNC. The Chief Guest address was given by Respected Dr.S.Rajalakshmi, Principal, SLIMS College of Nursing, Puducherry. Competitors have come from various colleges to participate in this case presentation competition and 3 cash prizes were awarded.

The unfolding theme was address by Prof.DR.G.Muthamilselvi, Principal, SMVNC, the Chief Guest addressed by DR.Kavitha, Principal School of Nursing, MTPG&RI, Puducherry and Special guest addressed by N.Sredevy, Nursing officer, JIPMER, Puducherry. A vote of thanks given by Mr.S.Vignesh SNA Vice president, Bsc  (N) IV year.

The Student Nurses Association and Student council celebrated Teachers day on 5th September 2024. The programme were organized by SNA President Dr.Prof. Muthamilselvi, Principal SMVNC and SNA advisor, DR.P.Manimegalai, Associate Professore, SMVNC. The chief guest Dr.Prof.A.Maria Therese from MTPG&RIHS, Puducherry.  Award distribution for faculties under various categories.
